Lecture 3: Vectors and 2-d Kinematics

Objectives: In this lecture, students will learn to

• add vectors graphically
• express vectors in unit vector notation
• relate magnitude and direction of a vector to its components
• use the method of components to find sums of vectors
• generalize velocity and acceleration to two dimensions
• separate x- and y-direction of motion
• explain the behavior of acceleration and velocity components in projectile motion
